Documentary Mini-Task

Documentary Mini-Task
A documentary is something that is factual on the topic it’s based on and this is back up via interviews, images and even clips of the topic.
Expository Documentaries:
This is where you speak directly to the viewer about the chosen topic of the documentary using voiceovers or titles. This is to try and persuade the viewer about your point.
Observational Documentaries:
This is where you just the documentary with minimal narrative film makers would find the sub-genre very poetic as it is Abstract. The film maker is not to be seen by the audience. The audience decides what to think of the documentary via the text.
Interactive Documentaries:
The film maker is present for the film as they are a participant, the interviewers interact with the presenter and the audience. Arguments are presented throughout the documentary. Manipulation of the text is more evident.
Bowling for Columbine is a example for an interactive documentary as he is interacting with the people around him and the audience as a whole.

Reflective Documentaries:
The filmmaker attempts to expose the conventions of documentary to the audience, the text is exposed and experimented with. Will consist of shots that have captured everyday life but then are used as bricks which can make different/experimental films.
Performative Documentaries:
Represents the world indirectly and emphasis is on presentation of the film rather than content. Use of re-enactment's, exaggerated camera positions and soundtracks to help submerge the audience.
Man on Wire is a great example of this as it is a film that is based on a guy that walked between the twin towers.
